Markit Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 18, 2026 · Last updated: August 18, 2026

In short: Markit stores your lists, vocabulary records, learning progress, settings, bookmarks, and recent tabs locally on your device. Markit does not require a Markit account and does not upload this learning data to a Markit-operated cloud database.

This Privacy Policy explains how ozofamily ("we", "us", or "our") handles information when you use the Markit Android application ("Markit" or the "App").

1. Information stored on your device

Markit stores the following information locally on your device so that its features work:

This content remains on your device unless you choose to export or back it up. Removing the App may remove locally stored data, subject to Android's own backup and restore behavior.

2. Browser and website content

Markit includes an in-App browser. When you visit a website, your device connects directly to that website. The website may receive information normally sent by a browser, such as your IP address, device/browser information, cookies, and requests. Third-party websites have their own privacy policies and practices, which we do not control.

Text you explicitly select may be processed on your device for highlighting, reading, and saving to a list. Saved selections are stored locally as described above.

3. Backups, exports, and imports

Backup and export features operate only when you request them. Markit creates a file containing the selected App data and uses Android's system file picker so you can choose where to save it. If you select a cloud-storage provider in that picker, the provider receives and stores the file under its own terms and privacy policy. We do not automatically receive a copy.

When you import or restore a file, Markit reads the file you select and writes the supported contents to local App storage. You are responsible for protecting exported files and deleting copies you no longer need.

4. Advertising

The Free version may display ads provided by Google Mobile Ads. Google and its partners may process information such as advertising identifiers, IP address, device information, ad interactions, diagnostics, and approximate location inferred from an IP address to deliver, measure, secure, and improve advertising. Available consent and ad-personalization controls may depend on your region and device settings.

For more information, see Google's advertising privacy information.

5. App configuration and diagnostics

Markit uses Firebase Remote Config to obtain feature and usage-limit settings. Google may process App-instance identifiers, IP address, device information, and technical diagnostics needed to provide and secure this service. Remote Config is not used by us to upload your vocabulary lists or learning records.

Learn more in Firebase Privacy and Security and the Google Privacy Policy.

6. Purchases and subscriptions

Premium subscriptions are processed by Google Play. Google handles your payment details. Markit receives purchase-related information needed to activate and maintain Premium access, such as product, purchase status, and purchase token. We do not receive your full payment-card details. Subscription management is subject to Google Play's terms and privacy practices.

7. How information is used and shared

Information is used to provide App features, remember your settings and progress, display and measure ads in the Free version, manage Premium access, obtain remote feature configuration, maintain security, and diagnose technical problems.

We do not sell your locally stored learning content. Information may be processed by service providers described in this Policy when their features are used. We may also disclose information when legally required or when necessary to protect users, rights, safety, and the integrity of the App.

8. Retention, deletion, and your choices

Locally stored App data is retained until you delete it through the App, clear the App's storage in Android settings, or uninstall the App. You may delete individual records and lists using App controls. You can delete browser bookmarks and recent tabs using browser controls.

Exported and backup files remain wherever you chose to save them until you delete them there. Purchase records and information processed by Google are retained according to Google's policies and applicable law.

9. Security

We use reasonable technical measures and Android platform protections appropriate to the nature of the App. However, no device, transmission, or storage method is completely secure. Keep your device protected and store exported files only in locations you trust.

10. Children's privacy

Markit is not directed to children under 13, or the minimum digital-consent age required in their country. We do not knowingly collect children's personal information into a Markit-operated account or cloud database. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us so we can evaluate and address the concern.

11. International processing

Google and other third-party services may process information in countries other than your own, subject to their safeguards and applicable law. Your locally stored learning content stays on your device unless you choose to export it to another location.

12. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy when the App, legal requirements, or third-party services change. We will update the date at the top of this page and provide additional notice when required.
